Vivint | Company Review

Company Bio

Vivint has a long and rich history, beginning with their inception in 1999 by founder Todd Pedersen. For the first decade of its company history, Vivint was known as APX Alarm, but a rebranding effort in 2010 resulted in their current company name. Now, as the fourth largest home security company in the US and with over 500,000 customers, Vivint is a household name that offers nationwide service. Headquartered in Provo, Utah, Vivint has changed the home security industry by focusing on green products and affordable home automation services as an integral part of a home alarm system.

Products

Vivint’s products are simple, yet state-of-the-art. Vivint revolutionized home security in October of 2009 by introducing the Go!Control panel, which features a touch screen and is capable of home automation. This product can not only control your wireless security system, including door and window sensors, but also control home lighting, video surveillance, automatic door locks, small appliances, and the thermostat. The Go!Control panel was the first of its kind to combine home security and home automation, which companies like ADT are now adopting as well.

Besides home automation features, Vivint has promoted green energy use. Their smart thermostat works with the Go!Control panel, and can be used by a remote or smart phone application. The thermostat can also be programmed to operate on a schedule for up to seven days. The energy management and home automation packages also include 12 compact fluorescent lightbulbs, which are more energy efficient than incandescent lightbulbs.

By combining home security, home automation, and green energy use, Vivint pushed the home security industry to be more modern and intelligent with their products and services.
